In 2017 and 2018 the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and Planning and Zoning Commission formed five sub-area committees: Priest Lake, Priest River/Oldtown, Sagle, Selle Valley, and Southwest Bonner County. The intent of these sub-areas was for citizens within these geographic areas to be more intimately involved in the growth specific to their respective areas. The sub-area committees were staffed with many volunteers who met in open meetings regularly and produced sub-area plans.
These plans were presented to the BOCC in 2020 and 2021. The sub-area plans have not been adopted by the BOCC and are not an ordinance or regulation of Bonner County. The sub-area plans have not been adopted into the Bonner County Comprehensive Plan.
In 2022 the Board of County Commissioners split the Planning and Zoning Commission into two separate commissions, the Planning Commission and the Zoning Commission. Since its inception, the Planning Commission has been diligently working on updating all components of the Comprehensive Plan. The sub-area plans have been reviewed and used by the Planning Commission as guiding documents; many aspects of the sub-area plans have been incorporated into the various component updates. The sub-area plans have been a valuable part of the Comprehensive Plan update process.
