To increase awareness of the risk of wildfire in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) of Bonner County, and assist property owners in the removal of hazardous fuels. Removing ladder fuels (pruning, cutting brush) and increasing tree spacing (thinning) are means of mitigating the fire hazard. All projects must be implemented in a way that will provide a level of protection for a community. A project needs to be continuous through multiple properties, typically adjacent to roads or other natural vegetation barriers (powerlines, farm fields, private landowner forest management activities). Property owners receiving this type of assistance agree to maintain the improvements for ten years, or until the property changes owners.
This program is funded through federal grants in specific locations within Bonner County. Please reference the Grant Boundaries map for a visual representation of these boundaries.
