General FAQs

The Recorder’s Office records land documents to make them public record and is locate in the Administration Building. The Court Records Office is where civil, criminal, divorce, juvenile court and probate documents are filed and is located in the Courthouse at 215 S. First Avenue, Sandpoint (208)265-1432. The Recorder’s Office does NOT provide any forms. You can purchase blank deed forms from most stationary supply stores or online.

The Recorder’s office staff is not authorized to provide legal guidance. We recommend that you contact an attorney. You may also visit the Idaho Legal Aid Services and the State of Idaho Judicial Branch website for further information.

These documents are available through the Court in the county where they were filed.

First, be aware that we are unable to track any of our documents to a piece of property. Our documents are indexed to name and are in order by the recording date. Documents recorded after July 1, 1986 are available online at Official Records Search. Documents recorded prior to July 1, 1986 require that you come to our office to search. We will provide instruction for you to search, however, we are unauthorized to perform your search for you or to interpret your search results. Information need to easily locate easement documents is often located within your title report.
